Here are 3 views of the relief map showing the layout of the city of nauvoo. In the first one you can hardly see the Temple lit up in the center of the photo.
In this picture you can see the Temple and a representation of the brick and log buildings. The temple was only functioning for a short time before was destroyed by angry mobs and then a tornado finished off the walls that were left standing.
Here you can see that Nauvoo sits on a type of peninsula sticking out in the Mississippe river. (The river takes such a tight curve there that it makes like a peninsula.)
