From Nauvoo to Kansas City and Independence, MO.

We drove from Nauvoo to Dubuque Iowa Tuesday for a repair on our sofabed. Horray, they fixed it and the drivers chair. The customer service manager was kind enough to plug us in for the night and got us on the road by noon today (Wednesday).

Today we made it to within a 100 miles of Kansas City to a little RV park where we got 50amp, water and sewer for $16. Tomorrow we go the Harley Davidson mfg where they make the Screamin Eagle V-Rod. Paul's pretty excited to see the plant where they're made.

From there we're going to visit the Liberty Jail in Independence, MO.
Hopefully we can get some photos inside the museum of the Jail.

Nauvoo, how the land lies.

Here are 3 views of the relief map showing the layout of the city of nauvoo. In the first one you can hardly see the Temple lit up in the center of the photo.
In this picture you can see the Temple and a representation of the brick and log buildings. The temple was only functioning for a short time before was destroyed by angry mobs and then a tornado finished off the walls that were left standing.
Here you can see that Nauvoo sits on a type of peninsula sticking out in the Mississippe river. (The river takes such a tight curve there that it makes like a peninsula.)

Here are a couple pictures of the Temple in Nauvoo. the first is a drawing of the 1846 building and the second is the current Temple.
This third picture is a replica of the sun stone mounted at the top of the pilasters all around the building.
Paul and I spent 3 days there and it wasn't enough but we plan on returning. I'll blog more pictures of the town next.

Finally in Nauvoo

This is just a short note.

We arrived this morning in Nauvoo. We have been very busy since. We moved in to a campsite and because we couldn't get a satelite view, we moved to another spot then we took a wagon ride around historic Nauvoo, Paul found where his ansestor had a 1/2 acre lot, we went to the Temple, and attended a play about life in Nauvoo.

That's quite a day for us, we're tired and church is at 8 am. We're on our way to bed,

We hope this isn't too much information and that you can enjoy a little of our travels.

I'll take pictures and post them in a day or so.

Well, we just spent the night in the middle of the Tennessee river. We made it about 242 miles from Perry to a rest area just north of Chattanooga Tennessee. there is a huge and lovely rest area on this little island in the middle of the river. It reminds me of the Florida Keys to be on an island like that.

The fall in this area and spring are quite different. The hills were all
covered with autumn leaves of orange, gold and red. Now the trees
are just starting to sprout little green buds and the red bud is in full
bloom of bright purple. In many places there are fruit trees bursting
with blossoms. They look like giant popcorn balls of white and pink.
We saw a dwarf cherry tree orchard in bloom, the trees were only
about 3-4 feet tall and it made a beautiful pink carpet.

We just passed an armored LOOMIS truck with 4 axels and 14 wheels.
I wonder what's so heavy that they need all that strength. They must
carry gold or coin. (I'm writing this as we travel for posting when we
get stopped and connected to the internet again!)
The farther north we travel the fewer blossoms we see. Spring is
slower in coming here!

Note to Barbara Stephens: We are at Paduca, KY and I'm going in to
see the Quilt Museum. Thanks for the info, it was even more amazing than I had imagined.

We just "flew" through St. Louis, MO and I got a couple pictures of the
arch. Wow that's much bigger than I realized. It's getting dark and
the picture is kind of dark but I might include it anyway. Boy-o-boy, St
Louis sure has beautiful sunsets, I've taken about 15 shots.

That's it for today. We're sleeping at Injun Joe's Campground and drive the 77 miles to Nauvoo tomorrow.

We are leaving Georgia and heading to Nauvoo, Il.

I just wanted you to see what the fairgrounds looks like with all the motorhomes here.

There are 3820 family coaches and a total of 4830 registered coaches including exhibitor, demo, live-in, and display. This is a big place with plenty of room for more, they once had 6600+ coaches a few years ago.

It's quite a large gathering of people and coaches. The seminars have been informative and useful. It's because of one seminar given by "geeks on tour" that we have this blog. Thank You, GEEKS.

Perry Georgia FMCA Rally

Here's starting our BLOG.

Paul and Karen have been in Georgia since Thursday, March 15th. We attended the Holiday Rambler Pre-Rally in Macon at the start of their Cherry Blossom Festival. We did visit the Tigers of India, one of Macon's Festival activities. Saturday we caravanned to Perry (30 miles south of Macon) for the FMCA RALLY. It's quite a sight for 40 RV's to travel together with police escorts at all intersections. We parked at the largest fair grounds I've ever seen. I wish I had a photo of all the rigs here. (The record was 6,639 motorhomes registered around 1999.)
There is lots of room between groups of motorhomes.

There are many seminars here of interest to motorhome travelers, both part-timers and full-timers. They have some crafts, health concerns, home-engine etc maintainence and travel interests. That's where I learned how to make our own blog.
